Roe v Wade: Who does it effect?

Roe v. Wade (410 U.S. 113) was a landmark decision that protected a pregnant women’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without intrusive government restriction.

The uproar in the United States after the overturning of this decision has instigated many conversations around the world about global reproductive justice.

Although this impacts women of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds, overturning Roe v. Wade disproportionately impacts women of color (WOC). This is because WOC are comparatively more likely to seek abortions and have more limited access to health care and the financial means to travel out of state for abortions.

The Roe v. Wade ruling could also impact rights of the LGBTQ community. Members of the SCOTUS have suggested “correcting’ previous landmark decisions as well, which includes Obergefell v. Hodges, the decision that legalized gay marriage in all 50 States.
